Frances Thompson

I am a Bidjara/Kairi Kairi and Australian South Sea Islander artist based in Rockhampton. My journey with art began in high school, but it wasn’t until I moved back home in 2024 that I truly rediscovered my passion for First Nations art. Reconnecting with my culture and father’s side of the family, has been a pivotal part of my healing journey, it has helped me find a stronger sense of identity and belonging.

My art is deeply inspired by Mother Nature, my heritage, and the art of storytelling, which are core themes in all my work. My artworks hold a different meaning/story but all come back to a reminder to take care and connect to country, each other and most importantly yourself. As a contemporary Indigenous artist, I explore a variety of techniques, from traditional dot painting to fine linework.

Through my work, I hope to create a sense of connection with others, showing that they are not alone in their struggles. I want viewers to understand that life is full of ups and downs, and that it’s important to care for yourself and appreciate the beauty of nature as a source of healing.
