Gina Ward

Gina Ward is an Australian contemporary artist whose work balances abstract figurative form, architecture and still life with geometric compositions that create narration through bold tones and structure . Working primarily in acrylic, Ward’s paintings explore themes of identity, memory, and emotional presence through layered colour, rhythmic line, and expressive restraint. Figures and forms appear and dissolve across the surface, creating a subtle tension between what is revealed and what is left unsaid.
Influenced by mid century modern aesthetics and architecture, her pieces combine rich connection alongside a dynamic tonal palette resulting in works that are visually striking and
emotionally resonant.

As I fully embrace life as an artist, I still work as a theatre nurse in one of Brisbane’s major hospitals—a position that has sharpened my eye for precision and deepened my understanding of human vulnerability. That sense of care and attention to detail echoes in my work.

I originally come from a small outback town in rural Queensland, where wide horizons and quiet stillness shaped my view the world. Those early years gave me a strong connection to country, contrast, and storytelling.

Each painting I create is a reflection of my curiosity and intuition. I aim to make work that feels strong yet sensitive. Art that not only draws the eye, but also leaves a lasting impression.

Working primarily with acrylic on Canvas. Mid Century Modern/ Figurative Abstraction.

What drives me is the interplay of geometry, colour, and feeling. I particularly enjoy building precise, balanced compositions, then quietly disrupting them. Subtle mismatches in line or shape invite you to look a little closer, to feel the push and pull between control and vulnerability.
